Fillmore & 5th Fall/Winter Look Book

Finally, the look book I shot for SF-based consignment company Fillmore & 5th is out. Model Allie from Look, Stylist Paula and MUA Inna came together for this shoot so quickly. It was one of the most painful shoots I ever did for a lot of reasons I won't go into, but in any they are :)

Also, happy new year!

Venice is Nice So Let's Hang

I was sent to LA on business by Crossroads to have brunch with Natalie and Madeline. Madeline had to jet after brunch (not mad atchu, girl!) but Natalie and I ended up taking a little excursion to Venice Beach. As two native Bay Area-ites, the area still has a bit of novelty to us. We lucked out getting there as for some reason there was absolutely no traffic going in that direction. We got there just in time to kick off our shoes and walk straight through the sand to see a surreal Los Angeles sunset. As the sun dipped into the horizon, a man played guitar in the distance while his skateboard stood at bay behind him. It was a picture-perfect LA sunset.

After watching the sunset we put some more money in my meter and just kind of hung out in the warmth of the car. We ate dinner at a Mediterran-American fusion place called Cairo Cowboy, and then took a stroll down the boardwalk in search of milkshakes. We didn't find any as most places were closing, so we took a seat in front of a Venice Beach hotel, which was lined with blue Christmas lights. A Frenchman wearing an Indiana Jones-like hat came over and started chatting with us about the hotel, which apparently rents out rooms as well, and started to tell us about a bar nearby. I don'k drink and Natalie isn't 21 yet so there was no way we could heed his recommendation, but it was nice just the same. The conversation was interrupted by some typical Venice Beach crazies, and we went on our way back to La-la land, where we watched My So-Called Life in my hotel room until I had to take Natalie home.
I've been to Venice Beach maybe three or four times in my life, and every time I go I have a completely different experience. The first was a stop over on the way back from San Diego - I was like why am I here and not in SD? The second, a photo shoot. A third on April 20, 2012 at 4:20 in the morning on my way to Coachella - we left our friends who were celebrating on the beach only to be terrorized by a person outside our car who was clearly on a lot of drugs, and then had to speed off because we were so scared, leaving the other two girls on the boardwalk.
And then this.  Every memory has its own magic. Glad I got to make a new one in this interesting place with Natalie, who, besides being a blogger, is an inherently sweet and good person.

A few images from a shoot with Maddie from Stars from a few months back. She looks like Samantha Gradoville to me.
