A Chance Encounter with Disaster

Part of winning is learning to accept defeat...

Every bad shoot I ever have takes a toll on me. I usually go into hiding for months, only willing to take out the camera to test some shots on myself. I take photos of flowers and trees and try to look within myself for the inspiration that I had not that long ago....

Reading a blog post and then another by a photographer I really admire and seeing that she too has off days has helped me significantly. Maybe the key to growing lies in the chance encounter with disaster. Furthermore, I met up with fellow photog Raj today for some coffee/indian food (I had the coffee, he had the Indian food). I jokingly told him to bring the inspiration, and he told me to bring mine. We chatted about our lives, our camera gear (he has much cooler stuff than me), our favorite models and what makes a good photographer and a good photograph. Our work is very different but I feel like there's some sort of harmony there too, and we've worked with a lot of the same people. Just talking to him, I felt a little more brave to get out there and shoot again.

I'm going to be doing some traveling come beginning of June, but until then I'm going to try and shoot as much as possible. We're almost done with April and I can count the shoots I've done on my two hands! I'm hoping to shoot with one of my two Nikkies soon (the lovely Nikkie S.), and I'm planning some stuff with some new models and some fresh faces. Hopefully all goes well.

I'm turning 25 next month. Oh how time flies...
